It is envisaged the development of a system based on the idea of semantic desktop (SD), through which the user interacts with the entire world. The SD plays therefore the role of interface between the user’s private knowledge and the public
knowledge. The local vs. Web dichotomy tends to disappear as the semantic desktop tools improve their features, promoting the transparency between the physical location or type of information, thus promoting the focus on the content instead of the technical
details.
The project will address and develop software tools in the following topics: Semantic Desktop, Semantic Annotation and Classification, Information Integration, Emergent Semantics, Social Semantic Networks, Knowledge querying.
Moreover, due to its multi-disciplinary nature, it is envisaged that the project makes extensive use of several technologies: Information Indexing and Retrieval (IR), Recommendation Systems (RS), Semantic Desktop (SD), Information Extraction (IE), Emergent Semantics (ES), Peer-to-peer (P2P), Information Integration (II), Social Semantic Networks (SSN).
