Name: GREENBOX - Infra-structure for the process of pre-treatment, collection and storage of vegetable oil and fat
Acronym: GREENBOX
Financer Entitie: QREN
Start Date: 2010
Status: Finished
Description: Used vegetable oil and fat in kitchen waste water, are an environment problem and a residue with economic value as well. They can be recycled and transformed in to biodiesel. Due to its low economic value, the recycling costs must be even lower, in order to have a feasible economic activity. This project brings together, the research and prototyping work of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, and the expertise of the FILTAPORTO company in oil and fat recycling, to develop a project of a support infra-structure for the process of pre-treatment, collection and storage of vegetable oil and fat. The project should downsize the process, lowering the costs and raising the yield of the collection and recycling economic activity. The project objectives will be fulfilled with the development of innovative systems of: fat pre-filtering at the storage boxes water entrance; real time monitoring of the oil and fat storage containers; automatic route management of the collecting vehicles; water and fat separation at the collection moment.
