The Internet of Things (IoT) has already changed not only key aspects of our daily lives but also the way several industries work. Such IoT revolution is built upon ubiquitous wireless connectivity, including both human- and machine-type communications. The latter, also known as MTC, involves a wide range of heterogeneous applications, ranging from electricity metering to advanced real-time frequency control. MTC can work in two distinct modes related to the specific application under consideration. These modes are: massive MTC (mMTC) and ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC). While MTC deployments are becoming widespread, energy systems are also changing towards decentralization – in a trend similar to the one experienced by communication systems during the last decades. In this context, the Energy Internet emerges as a decentralized way of managing the future energy systems with flexible loads, storage and renewables, while integrating the most advanced communication tools enabled by IoT and MTC. This workshop aims at state-of-the-art advances and innovations in the theoretical foundations of machine-type wireless communications in energy systems, IoT-enabled energy management, and applications communication theory in energy systems.
Original research articles are solicited in, but not limited to, the following areas:
• IoT-enabled decentralized energy infrastructures
• IoT-based energy management system of flexible loads and renewable generation
• Packetized energy management
• MTC for electric vehicles and storage technologies
• Data acquisition and analytics for Energy Internet
• Design of IoT-enabled energy systems
• Cyber-physical energy systems
• Enabling technologies and standards for the MTC communications applied in energy systems
• MTC-based energy/power management systems/Smart Grid, Energy Management
• Green IoT: Sustainable operation design and energy efficient management for Energy Internet
• Latency and/or reliability requirements for Energy Internet • Enablers of URLLC and/or mMTC:
• MTC advanced radio resource management techniques:
o Diversity schemes, redundant or multi-point transmission, multi-point connectivity
o Network infrastructure and core network enabling concepts o Cloud-RAN in light of latency- or reliability-critical applications in Energy Internet
o Solutions for co-existence of traffic with latency and/or reliability requirements and other traffic
• Experimental prototypes, test-laboratories and field trial experiences of Energy Internet
